U.S. Department of Education Visits Rio Vista Elementary

 
Director Robert Gomez is a graduate of El Rancho High School and the University of California at Irvine. Prior to being selected as the Director of Higher Education Outreach for the U. S. Department of Education, he served as an Information Specialist for the USDE and served as a Higher Education and Youth Liaison in the USDE.
 
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recognized Rio Vista Elementary School in the El Rancho Unified School District as one of the 337 schools named as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2014. Rio Vista Elementary School achieved this honor based on their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Rio Vista Elementary School was one of 48 schools recognized as Exemplary Gap Closing Schools. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels.
 
The Department will honor 287 public and 50 private schools at a recognition ceremony on November 10-11, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
