The Superintendent and district staff personally visited the school site to ensure all necessary actions were taken to maintain a safe school and workplace environment and determine next steps with Rio Vista’s principal. This was a serious accident, and understandably some school staff were visibly upset. We assured our teachers and staff that we are following all expected protocols through our Human Resources and Maintenance departments to ensure the safety and health of our students, teachers, and staff. To assist in this process, a mental health counselor is available to any student, staff member, or parent who may need assistance. El Rancho Unified School District is committed to the safety and well-being of every member of our community.
To prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, we are taking all necessary measures to review and improve safety, training, and maintenance protocols. Our Director of Maintenance is working to implement any necessary procedural improvements.
The principal of Rio Vista Elementary School sent a message to families that plainly explains what happened, what will be done to prevent it from happening again, and that their children are safe. Although this incident was regrettable, we are grateful that no one was injured and we are proud of how quickly and appropriately our dedicated school site staff responded. Families trust our staff every day with the safety of their children, and we want to assure them that we at El Rancho Unified School District regard their trust as our chief obligation.
