Student safety is our priority at Rio Vista. Please remember the following areas of concern and discuss them with your children.
Crosswalks Jaywalking is dangerous and illegal. Students should be reminded to look both ways before entering the crosswalk. As a driver, parents must remember to watch for pedestrians in the intersection and obey all traffic laws.
White zone The white zone is for loading and unloading only. Vehicles should not be left unattended. The driver must remain inside the vehicle at all times.
Morning supervision Cafeteria opens at 7:45 students are not supervised and should not be left unattended before the cafeteria opens. Elementary children are not old enough to be left alone unsupervised. Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:05 am daily.
Drivers Our children are vulnerable when walking in the community. Students don't understand how a car operates and may not be aware of the dangers of their actions. Students should be reminded that they are shorter than adults and it may be difficult if not impossible to be seen because of their size. Drivers should anticipate that children will make the wrong move in a traffic situation. Park or use the drop off area instead of blocking driveways.
